Yesterday we received news that 23andMe was filing bankruptcy. There have all kinds of news as why and what you should do with your DNA files on 23andme. 23andme is not the first or the last company to have financial problems or to be sold. When it comes to your personal information such as your DNA files you should not rely on the company to hold the only copy of your DNA files. Whether it is Ancestry.com, MyHeritage or any of the other DNA companies you should always download and store your files in more than one location. This is also true with your family trees that you store online, always make regular backups.
As for when a company is being sold or filing bankruptcy, you should always have a plan and understand how you can delete or download all of your information. The choice is up to you if you want to delete your information. The DNA Greek has an article below that may help you in that discussion.
