Edith Delia was born in Burlington, Vermont on May 19, 1902. She is the second child born to Narcisse “Nelson” and Delina (Bouchard) Chagnon.

Edith Married Herbert Gonyo on June 3, 1924, in St. Joseph’s Church in Burlington, Vermont. Herbert also known as Herbie was born in 1901 in West Chazy, New York.

Edith and Herbie had ten children:

  • Irene (Gonyo) Maskell 1925-2012
  • Gloria (Gonyo) McGrath 1927-1997
  • Herbert Gonyo, Jr., 1928-2015
  • Pearl (Gonyo) Whitehouse
  • Ruth (Gonyo) Shelley
  • Leon Gonyo 1939-2018
  • Leona (Gonyo) Turner 1936-2010
  • Bernadette (Gonyo) Blow 1937-2001
  • Reginald Gonyo 1939-2018
  • Rosalie (Gonyo) Genest

Edith was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 782, a member of St. Margaret’s Church in DeFuniak, Florida and a former member of St. Mark’s Church in Burlington, Vermont.

Edith died on November 22, 1997 at the age of 97. She died in Okaloosa, Florida and is buried in New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington, Vermont with her husband Herbie Gonyo.
