5 Ways to Clean Up Your Digital & Paper Genealogy Files
|
1.Consolidate Duplicate Files
Go through your folders (physical or digital) and eliminate duplicate records, photos, or notes.
|
2.Rename Files for Clarity
Use consistent naming conventions to make files easy to locate.
|
3.Create a Folder System
Organize digital files into clearly labeled folders. Use color-coded folders or tabs for paper files.
|
4.Purge Outdated or Incomplete Notes
Remove old “rough notes” that have already been entered into your tree or research log. Keep only information that still needs action or is relevant.

5.Digitize Key Documents
Scan important paper records and photos. Store them in multiple locations (e.g., cloud and external drive) and mark paper versions as "digitized" to avoid confusion.
