Nelson Leonard Chagnon was born November 3rd, 1924, in Burlington, Vermont. He is the twin brother of Henry Leo Chagnon. He was fourteenth child born to Narcisse “Nelson” and Delina (Bouchard) Chagnon.

Nelson married Virginia Veronica “Ginnie” Klein on June 29, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont. Virginia was born May 30, 1926, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania.

Nelson and Ginnie had six children;

  • Nelson Leonard Chagnon, Jr.
  • Carol (Chagnon) Rocque
  • Bruce Wayne Chagnon 1950-2021
  • Judy (Chagnon) Labombard Driscoll
  • Gary Gus Chagnon
  • Doreen (Chagnon) Draper 1956-2017

Nelson served in the U.S. Army in WWII and was stationed in England.

Nelson worked for the Burlington Water Dept for 26 years before retiring.

Nelson enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes. He was also a member of the VFW Post #782 of Burlington.

Nelson died October 23, 1982 in Burlington, Vermont. He is buried with his mother and twin brother Henry in New Mount Calvary Cemetery, in Burlington, Vermont.
